Photo Tips: Black-and-White

Photo Tips: Black-and-White. In the color version of this photo, Dominic I. Ledesma is holding his personal electronic guitar, which he brought to a recent photo shoot with us.
While we like the color version overall, the guitar is so spectacular that it “steals” a bit of attention from the model. In portraiture work, the focus should always be on the human subject, so we converted the photo to the black-and-white version shown below. In this version, the desaturated colors of the guitar lessen its visual demand.
Tip: While there are several ways to convert a color photograph to a black-and-white directly in Photoshop, for novice photographers, we recommend BW Workflow Pro for its ease of use and superior results. BW Workflow Pro is a plug-in for Photoshop that can be purchased and downloaded online for $29.90 (click here). After it is installed, it can be accessed through the “File” drop-down menu in Photoshop. In an earlier post, we recommended this plug-in for creating duotone photos (click here).
The model in this photo is Dominic I. Ledesma. For Dominic’s bio (click here).

Wow, I love a hot guy with a guitar! Nice “glow” effect on the guy too.
